The Russian satellite system would be targeted by attacks from the “neighboring territories” of Russia, through which attempts are made to jam or replace satellite signals, Aleksei Volin, director of the company Kosmiceskaia Sviazi (Space Communication), said on Tuesday, quoted by the EFE and EFE news agencies. Interfax, according to Agerpres. He says the alleged attacks prompted Russian authorities to take measures to protect their satellites.

During a forum dedicated to the IT development of the Russian economy, Volin stated that his company is currently working on the creation of a system “that will allow establishing the presence of harmful interference directed towards satellites.” “Unfortunately, lately, this aspect has become particularly important, since constant attacks against the group of Russian satellites are carried out from the neighboring territories”, he said.

The development of this program, according to Volin, which should be completed by the end of this year, is based on local solutions.

Russia, which accuses NATO of providing operational satellite intelligence to Ukraine, has launched several military satellites over the past year. The Russian Ministry of Defense launched a Soyuz-2.1b rocket carrying several military satellites from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in December, without specifying their number. This launch followed the one in November, when two Russian satellites were placed into orbit.

In October, the Ministry of Defense in Moscow had placed three military satellites into orbit, one on the 15th, the other two on the 22nd, which were carried by Angara and Soyuz-2.1b carrier rockets, respectively, plus a Glonass navigation satellite- K, also controlled by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Another military satellite, Kosmos-2558, was also launched in August, following the launch of other communications, navigation and military equipment in March, April, May and July, all under the control of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
